Winna's musings and experiments on the strange and weird of the culinary world.

Ever had century egg and buttered toast?

Too tame?

Stir fried caterpillar cocoons, perhaps?

This blog will probably feature a combination of eating, tasting, experimenting, recipes, how-tos, research, history and nutrition/health all relating back to food.

I'm Sorry Wafflelicious, But I'm In Love With Max

I haven't been cooking lately, other than the occasional instant noodles or bibimbap, and by bibimbap I mean mixing together canned tuna, chili sauce, sesame oil, egg and leftover veges in a big bowl. I've just been eating out and catching up with old friends, but also with family.

So, there's this new waffle and pancake house that opened up nearby and mum wanted to go - who am I to say no? Better she instigate than me ;D

Wafflelicious has only been open for a new months. Business is decent, though obviously more during late hours. It's right across the street from Sweets on Queens, Queen St, Auburn, where the locals drink coffee, eat Mediterranean desserts and smoke hookah.

What I really like about the place is the decor. It might be due to the fact that the restaurant opens up to big, glass windows that lets in lots of light during the day. It might also be because everything is new and clean.

Time to order. The menu lists everything that's in the dishes, but they also have pictures on the counter as well!

Other desserts they have but didn't try. Looking pretty tasty already.

Not too long a wait later...

Snow White: Waffle with strawberries and vanilla bean icecream, drizzled with white chocolate, $14.50.

Strawberry Delight: Waffle covered in strawberries and chocolate, with vanilla bean icecream and chocolate shot, $15.50.

Fantasy: Waffle with strawberry, banana, marshmallows drizzled with milk chocolate, chocolate fudge brownie icecream and vanilla bean icecream and a chocolate shot, $17 ouch.

We had wanted pancakes to try, but as soon as it was our turn to order one of the kitchen hands came out and told the waiter they were out of pancakes! So it was all waffles.

The waffles were average. The chocolate was comparable to Max Brenner, and the price a little sceptical. The icecream however, was delicious. You can see the black flecks of the vanilla bean in the icecream, which is definitely a positive. The fudge brownie icecream was super sweet and gooey.

End verdict?

Max Brenner waffles are still better, and if I'm going to be paying the same price I'd go to Parra for it. Sorry Wafflelicious, you can't compete with the bald man! Best. Waffles. Ever.

Waffalicious is more family orientated than max brenner.
The bold man makes you wait over 20 min even if the store is empty and when bannana prices get too high they boycott the bananas.
Parking is easier at auburn so waffalicious is better than all the bald men stores put together.

Very valid points, Anon. Max's waffles alone are better textually and taste wise, but it has its cons too (ex-employees and friends of mine paid and treated poorly, long wait times, stingy on fruit). Personally, I would wait if only for those crispy, caramelised waffles and nothing else.
