Hi there! You've reached Winna's blog!

Winna's musings and experiments on the strange and weird of the culinary world.

Ever had century egg and buttered toast?

Too tame?

Stir fried caterpillar cocoons, perhaps?

This blog will probably feature a combination of eating, tasting, experimenting, recipes, how-tos, research, history and nutrition/health all relating back to food.

Join me as I investigate these gastronomic oddities, and remember to say hi!

7 Best Food-Related Blogs

A compilation of a few of my favourite food bloggers as of this date, and why I see them as the best.

Susan Thye @ http://www.chocolatesuze.com

Arguably one of Australia's top food bloggers, Susan has a nutritionist background although she can be seen eating food that is much too bad for you.

In fact, her blog is all about eating and less so about cooking. If you LOVE to EAT, this is your stop. Restaurant reviews, food events and trials as well as sporadic but easy-for-the-lazy-person cooking.

Chocolatesuze is fun, happy and will tingle your tastebuds as she dines in some of the finest restaurants in Sydney. She is also the partner of a biscotti baking business set up with her mum.

Callum Hann @ http://callumskitchen.com/

If you liked Callum, one of the youngest contestants of Masterchef, then you'll want to read his blog.

Callum is young but his food and skill in the kitchen is brilliant. Although a fairly new blog, he has already established himself as a good food blogger (in my books anyway) with loads of tricks and tips up his sleeve. He is also adamant about using beautiful ingredients and is a good read for his musings on what he's about to cook.

KC @ http://korean-cuisine.blogspot.com/

This recipe blog is all about recreating authentic Korean recipes. KC has also battled cancer in the past, and her food may reflect on her need for healthy but traditional eating.

If you're looking to try Korean food at home, look no further. Especially with all those delicious banchans that Korean restaurants always serve! It is wonderful to find so many 'authentic' recipes without using a translator (she lives in the US and writes in fluent English). Her recipes are detailed and come with photographic step-by-step so you know what everything looks like from beginning to end.

Ju @ http://thelittleteochew.blogspot.com/

A Singaporean cooking blog that has taught me so much about my food heritage (I'm a quarter Teochew, quarter Hakka and half Hainanese, each with their own distinctive cuisine). Ju's recipes have helped me reconnect with my Teochew grandmother through all the cooking she's done in the past 20 years she's been in my life.

Ju has only started blogging about a year ago, logging her journey through the kitchen.

Warning: Food pornography photography is extensive.

Happy Home Baker @ http://happyhomebaking.blogspot.com/

Another blogger from Singapore who dabbles in baking and cooking, although most recipes are for the sweet tooth. Like The Little Teochew, she is also a stay-at-home mum that began cooking, drawing inspiration from other food blogs and people around her.

Most of the posts are first attempts, and does contain cooking tips and explanations in cases of disaster. HHB will try to explain why your attempt failed instead of leaving flabbergasted and with a disappointed heavy heart.

Marion Grasby @ http://hedonistichostess.com.au/

Marion was one of my favourite contestants on Masterchef, right next to Poh, Alvin and Skye. She is a very nostalgic cook, focusing on whimsical musings that take you back to the past. Her recipes and instructions are also informative, rather than a mind dump of information. She brings you back to the core of the ingredients, and that it is these beautiful, fresh, luscious ingredients that inspire her to create food.

I have great respect for Marion as a sweet person and a talented cook. Her cooking style is very Australian country; great local, fresh produce. And she loves pies.

Monica Reinagel @ http://nutritiondiva.quickanddirtytips.com/

A certified nutritionist with a very soothing voice, I tend to listen to her podcasts available for free on iTunes and if I'm looking for links, will visit her blog. She talks about health and nutrition facts, but best of all, Monica uses substatiated journal articles and scientific sources as her basis of argument. You can be assured that her opinions are grounded in facts, or at least logical and somewhat scientifically proven.

Other than nutrition facts, there is the odd recipe and ingredient recommendation that is very relevant to a food blogger like me who doesn't want to only eat gourmet food.
